Safety & Compliance

Garage doors are the largest moving thing in a typical home. We work on them every day across Connecticut, and we do it under proper licensing and insurance.

How we’re credentialed

CT Home Improvement Contractor License

HIC.0704369

Registered with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. License number is shown on every invoice and on the technician’s vehicle.

General liability & workers’ comp insurance

Carried in full

Proof of insurance is available on request before any work begins on your property.

Local Connecticut business

Licensed in Connecticut

A real Connecticut business with a license you can verify with the CT Department of Consumer Protection — not a national lead-gen number.

What we check on every visit

Before we close out a service call, we run a balance and safety test on the door. That includes:

  • Manual balance test — door should hold position at the halfway point with the opener disconnected.
  • Photo-eye sensor reversal test — the door must reverse when the beam is broken.
  • Auto-reverse force test — the door must reverse on contact with an obstruction.
  • Cable seating on both drums — no fraying, no slack.
  • Spring condition and winding — visible gaps, oxidation, or cone slippage are flagged.
  • Track alignment, fastener tightness, and roller wear.

Things homeowners can safely do

  • Visually inspect the door from a safe distance while it operates.
  • Listen for grinding, popping, or banging sounds and report them when you call.
  • Wipe the photo-eye sensor lenses near the floor with a soft cloth.
  • Clear the door’s travel path of trash cans, bikes, and stored items.

Call a pro instead

  • Anything involving the torsion or extension springs — they store enough energy to break bones.
  • Replacing or re-seating lift cables — wrong tension can drop the door.
  • Adjusting opener force or travel limits beyond what the manual shows.
  • Realigning a door that has come off its tracks.
  • Replacing damaged panels — old panels can be hard to match without manufacturer specs.

Got a door that doesn’t feel safe?

Don’t force it. Call us and we’ll inspect it before something gives.
